Core Advantages

What You Gain With Nilam Partners

Contract-Only Focus

We do not spread across general litigation or property matters. Our entire practice is built around commercial contracts — drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and auditing. This focus produces sharper judgement and faster turnaround than a generalist firm can offer.

Senior Practitioner Access

Every engagement is supervised by a partner-level practitioner with more than fifteen years of experience. Work is not delegated to junior associates without partner oversight — a material distinction from larger firms where client matters are staffed primarily by trainees.

Plain-Language Summaries

Every drafted or reviewed document is accompanied by a written summary of key terms, obligations, and risk areas in plain business language. Clients make decisions with full understanding of what a document means — not just what it says.

Transparent Timelines

Engagements begin with a written scope letter confirming deliverables and completion windows. We do not accept instructions without agreeing timelines first — and we communicate in advance if circumstances require adjustment.

Fixed and Predictable Fees

All three of our service lines carry confirmed fees before engagement commences. Clients know the full cost of their matter at the outset — there are no time-and-attendance billing surprises and no ambiguous retainers.

Cross-Border Capability

For contracts involving foreign counterparties or foreign governing law provisions, we advise on the Malaysian dimension and coordinate with qualified overseas counsel where the foreign jurisdiction requires specialist input.

Professional Expertise

Fifteen Years of Commercial Contract Practice

Nilam Partners has been advising Malaysian businesses on contract matters since 2009. Our founding partners trained at larger commercial firms before establishing this practice — bringing institutional knowledge without institutional inertia. The team has advised on supply chain agreements, technology licensing, joint venture structuring, and pre-acquisition due diligence across multiple industries.

  • Malaysian Bar members in good standing since 1998
  • Contracts Act 1950 and related legislation expertise
  • ASEAN cross-border transaction experience
  • 1,200+ contracts drafted and reviewed

Process & Technology

Structured Methods. Documented Process.

Our drafting process is structured and consistent. We maintain a proprietary clause library built from Malaysian judicial decisions and current commercial practice. For portfolio audits, we use a risk-tiered register format that allows organisations to prioritise remediation by exposure level rather than working through documents in an arbitrary order.

  • Version-controlled drafting with full revision history
  • Risk-rated portfolio audit output format
  • Negotiation points tracker for multi-round engagements
  • Secure document handling and encrypted transfer

Client Service

Responsive, Respectful Client Communication

We acknowledge all client communications within one business day and confirm substantive responses within two. Each client has a named point of contact at partner or senior associate level throughout the engagement. Updates are proactive — clients are informed of progress rather than needing to follow up.

  • Named partner or senior associate for each matter
  • One business day acknowledgement standard
  • Plain-language plain-language explanations at each stage
  • In-person meetings or video calls as preferred

Value & Pricing

Confirmed Fees. No Billing Surprises.

All three service lines carry published fees. Standard agreement drafting is priced at RM 650 and includes one revision round. Complex negotiation engagements are priced at RM 2,600, covering marked-up drafts and negotiation tracking. Portfolio audits are priced at RM 4,700 with a risk-rated register as the output. Fees are confirmed in writing before work commences.

  • Published transparent fee structure
  • No open-ended retainer billing
  • Scope changes agreed in writing before proceeding
  • MYR pricing — no foreign currency exposure

Results & Outcomes

Contracts That Hold Under Pressure

The measure of a well-drafted contract is not how it reads when everything goes well — it is how it performs when a dispute arises or a relationship deteriorates. Our drafting process is built around this standard: every document is reviewed with the question of how its terms would function under adversarial circumstances, not just cooperative ones.

  • Drafted for enforceability, not just signature
  • Risk scenarios reviewed at drafting stage
  • 480+ clients with documented positive outcomes
  • Dispute prevention as a drafting objective
